I certainly wouldn't stop a busy career woman in a pantsuit powerwalking across Midtown Manhattan to ask her for relationship advice, but in a relaxed bubble environment with same-aged peers like a college campus this stuff works really well. It's the sort of inane gossip fluff talk that hook early 20s girls really well and really quickly. It's just an excuse to start a conversation, notice that I get off the subject right away. You'll notice I start sounding normal around the 3:00 where the real "get to know you" conversation happens. At this point I've dropped enough subtle bait/DHV spikes for her to see me as a high value guy and invest in the interaction, and just as her buying temperature has peaked I get the number, seed a hangout and bounce.
