I have been a regular weed smoker for 8 years and the more I get into pickup the less I want to smoke. I have basically gotten to the point where when I go out in order to meet people I no longer smoke, but I still do a decent amount, and you never know when you are going to meet an awesome person.

Are any of you regular weed smokers? I know it affects people differently, for me it helps me relieve my anxiety, but it also makes me more introspective, which isn't a "sexy" personality trait. I have noticed that cutting down makes me much more sociable with my coworkers and complete strangers, but I am already a pretty talkative person to begin with.

Any thoughts on the topic would be helpful even if you don't smoke as this is something I am struggling with. It really helps me with my stress that is involved with my career, but seems to hinder me socially.

It does more harm than good. Drop it.

Some guys use it as a reason (aka excuse) to invite a girl back to their place. Assuming you know she likes to smoke, it can be a rapport builder or area of common ground. Of course it's a strong filter - for some girls it will be a big incentive, for others it will repel them.

I judge it similarly to drinking - if you do it alone a lot, it's more about the substance and more potentially dangerous. If you do it with others, it's more about the social connection with a shared activity. (These aren't mutually exclusive - one can blur into the other, of course.)

Its not rocket science brah. Stop smoking that shit now.

Secondly, I think weed smoking is just quite an unattractive trait. To me a 'weed smoker' seems to give of that douchy, haven't quite grown up yet, fuck the world, I don't want to get a job, lazy, immature vibe. And I don't think girls find it attractive. At least not ones over the age of 20.

In my teen years weed was so cool and rebel. Now at 22, most people my age tend to look down on weed smokers. Thats the way it is. Also most weed smokers I knew used to get the least amount of pussy.

Weed inhibits your social skills quite a bit. So although your anxiety will go down, your calibration will suffer, you'll be apt to say weird things that don't make sense, and not follow conversational threads clearly.

The reason alcohol can help some guys is that it often makes them more social and more emotionally aware. Weed does the opposite. If there were any drug that gets you stuck in your own head, it's marijuana. I've seen it in a lot of guys. And I've seen a lot of guys improve a lot as soon as they quit.

Do you like smoking weed? Why not smoke occasionally with guys friends, and don't so it when your out meeting woman. Done. If you like it, I see no reason to drop it from your life entirely. Your not doing yourself any physical or psychological harm by smoking, so why not just manage when your doing it.

A few years ago I would go out a lot with a couple close friends, aiming to meet girls . We all liked to smoke the green at that time, but one of us (not me, heh) always pushed for smoking a little before we went out.

Unfortunately lots of times, "a little" turned into "stoned evening watching TV and giggling". Other times, we would actually go out and be social but everything would feel a little weird as Mark describes above.

It's not a good thing to do before going out. Alcohol and caffeine, on the other hand...

Thanks for all of the feedback guys! I think most of what y'all have to say is in line with how I feel... It inhibits social skills and that isn't what you are after when you are trying to grow your social circle.

The point about getting a girl back to your house is valid as it's worked for me before but there are more attractive habits that can get a girl back to your place, whether you smoke or not.

Now just because you find it unattractive and and a "douchey, lazy & immature" trait, doesn't mean that most people do. I live in Los Angeles and more people I meet around town smoke than people who don't... so I don't think that's a fair blanket statement you are making about a HUGE group of people in a town of filled with successful smokers. I know a lot of stoners like what you described, but please don't generalize because there are a lot of talented people who smoke, some of which are the most social people I know and it doesn't affect their social skills.

That being said, I just don't think it is effective socially for me, and I really appreciate all the words of encouragement! I have quit smoking cigarettes 6 months ago and am finding weed a lot harder to quit because I use it to control my anxiety... Think it's kind of a crutch though if not used in moderation, much like any drug.

Yea this is how I feel but it's easier said than done.. I posted here because I thought I felt like I needed that encouragement and my friends love smoking so they aren't going to offer it, haha. I definitely wanted to see how other people feel about it because I know several people who are naturals who smoke a lot, but I am already over-analytical and so I think it takes me to a place that is not in "social state"
