In defense of the Pick Up Artists
So I went and dug up the actual study referenced in Mark's recent post. Here's the survey they used:

Quote:Compete
9. Compete with other men who are interested in you/her
10. Even if you are/she is with another guy, he tries/you try
to pick you/her up
12. If you reject him/she rejects you, he/you wouldn’t give
up easily
13. If you get/she gets defensive, he/you wouldn’t let up
Isolate
4. Make/s sexual comments about what he’d/you’d do to
you/her
5. Try to get you/her alone
7. Let you/her know he is/you are in control
8. Find out if you/she came to the party alone, so he/you
can take control of the situation
Tease
1. Teases you/her
2. Gives you/Give her a hard time
3. Picks on your/Pick on her appearance or behavior
6. Be a little insulting to you/her
11. He acts/You act like a bit of a jerk
14. He makes/You would make a few jokes at your/her
expense

No kidding guys who respond that they flirt as described in this survey also express sexist attitudes.

haha those questions are pu theory in a nutshell. LOL. But honestly if that is sexism. What's next? sexism equals having sex with someone of the opposite sex?. I think the biggest complaint that women thesedays have is "where are all the real men", men who arn't afraid of hitting on women.

In Europe there is now a law that makes it possible to ticket construction workers who whistle at people.

It's pretty horrible. And I mostly hate it that I get the sexist label the minute I'm being critical of feminism.

Sorry but I find that it's doing more harm to western society thesedays.

In united state, I was once approach by security at the mall telling me to stop hitting on girls because it's considered "solicitation".

Keep in mind i got quite a few dates from the girls and pretty much almost all the girls enjoy our little flirtation so i really dont see what's his problem. Probably just jealous he couldnt do it himself while on the job.

This society is sometime so PC that it destroy all traces of masculinity and any sense of pride of being a man.

RE: In defense of the Pick Up Artists
Well, I'd say some of these things make picking up sound a bit more creepy than it is. Like "Find out if you/she came to the party alone, so he/you can take control of the situation." The innocent way to read this is "find out what her logistical situation is so you know whether to invite her home or just get her number." Of course, the vague "take control of the situation" has an ominous overtone, so the question could mean "find out if she has friends around who would notice if you get her black out drunk." One of these is totally legit, the other is totally sketch, but what does the question mean.

Again with making sexual comments. A lot of that would be "it depends," Certainly if you've been making out for 15 minutes, and the guy makes a sexual comment about what he's gonna do when he takes the girl home, seems totally reasonable. If a guy walks up to girls and starts saying sexual shit right away, even as a girl acts uninterested, that's a bit sketch obviously.
