Biggest problem: PC and Porn addiction?
Hey Board, hey Mark, hey World.

Just a little thought of mine. Imagine a guy who isn't motivated
to go out and meet new girls. Imagine a guy that jerks off twice
a day and spends six+ hours in front of their computer.

I claim that the one is the reason for the other:
Take that guy's router away and have him not jerk off for at least
two weeks. He will be so dead-bored he will not only live healthier
by deciding to do sports and visit/call friends and spend some
quality time with them. He will also be far, far, far more motivated
to do the first pickup-babysteps, e.g. first indirect approaches.

Yes, a part of that guy is me and my experiences, but I think
that PC and Porn addiction are the major problems, robbing your
motivation, drive, desire, of more than every second guy starting out.

What do you guys think?

PS: Mark, your prize really is a Keyboard Jockey magnet.
On the one hand you give them the possibility to fuel their
fantasy or fantasized tactics, on the other hand you are even
offering their daily meal: NEW PRODUCTS!!!

But it's great the forum is finally on.

Peace out.

I'd definitely like to hear some more opinions on that topic. I'm that guy as well. Maybe not twice a day, but 1.5, not 6 hours, but four, anyway, I'M THAT GUY

And I accept the challenge with little modifications Smile No masturbation unless I've met with a woman that day or approached someone

I'm not sure about the masturbation...But I do know that working out increases your sex drive (and sex appeal)...so get to the gym either way.

RE: Biggest problem: PC and Porn addiction?
Guys seem to go both way with masturbation. I've seen valid arguments from guys for both doing it a lot (makes you less needy and outcome-dependent) and not doing it (makes you more motivated and aggressive). I think either way could be argued easily and will be different for different guys.

Porn I think is the bigger culprit. And I've gone through periods of being guilty of it -- I love porn as much as the next guy.

I think porn gives a lot of guys unrealistic expectations, unrealistic standards, and also desensitizes them to realistic feminine sexuality. I've noticed when I go on porn fasts, I become more motivated and do better. There are a lot of recent studies coming out about the effects of internet pornography on men... and the main result is a lack of sexual interest in, gulp, real women. Haha...

It's what I usually recommend to guys too... You can jerk off... but jerk off to girls you've met or are trying to get with. Don't jerk it to porn.

As for the keyboard jockeying... it's only a week, I think we'll all survive. Wink

I agree with Mark. Porn is harmful in my ways. Jerking off.. I think it should be avoided but if you can't resist, go for it. Personally, I'm more motivated and agressive when i haven't beat it in a while.

RE: Biggest problem: PC and Porn addiction?
This has been an interesting topic for me, something that Ive been researching for the last few months on and off. Although to be honest I haven't been able to find that many academic studies or anything, mainly forum comments and opinions.

The mainstream medical opinion is to beat the chicken as much as you like, the more the better(reduction in prostate cancer etc)

Then you have the traditional oriental philosophies that seen to suggest that by doing it too much, you lose your 'chi' or vital energy when you ejaculate etc. Personally I seem to suscribe to this view more. Its hard to really quantify though. Just how much would it really improve my energy/game by not masturbating? I think there is often this desire to find the 'magic bullet'. If we could only stop masturbating, or this, or that, then everything would suddenly fit into place.

At the same time, I have limited it now and then, but I haven't done it recently enough to really remember how much difference it makes. Personally(im 22) I have noticed an increase in apathy towards women over the last few years. Im not sure if I could blame this all on masturbating and porn, but im sure it plays a part. Why go out and bother to search for it when its all here at a click of a button?

I'd be interested in finding some more studies though, anything more academic etc. I know there are a few of psychology today. Mark if you know of any in particular that are interesting it would be great to put up a few links. thanks.

I think in the end, the only way to test things like these are by trial and error. If you want more motivation/aggression, then why not try. Ultimately at the same time I have a feeling that more exercise and weight lifting would lift testosterone levels to an extent where you wouldnt notice much of a diminished drive masturbating/watching porn regularly.

The difference between not jerking off for a few days and jerking it every day is big for me personally. The difference between not jerking off for weeks and days is not a big difference for me personally.

Again, porn is the big one for me, and I've read all sorts of stuff about the deleterious psychological effects of over-exposure to porn as well. It's been years since I've looked at, but I'm sure you can find it (there are all sorts of anti-porn groups out there who write about this stuff).

Or you would just masturbate more often than before. It's a matter of discipline, which is grown from necessity. I wanted to stop, but couldn't, until I did the math and realized that it was taking up too much time.

Check out this website also: http://www.reuniting.info/PTblog

I find that masturbating to porn, among other things, makes me more introverted, makes my mood worse, and seems to make me feel a bit 'disconnected' from others. I think besides the reasons offered in other articles, the association of porn and masturbation with shame and guilt feelings definitely contributes to this. When I started masturbating and watching porn regularly in my early teens, I felt huge shame around all this. Every time after I did it, I felt bad. I ended up watching some nasty porn pretty quickly (desensitization is one of the dangers of porn), which made me feel even worse.

So for many years it always went like: horny -> porn and masturbation -> guilt, low self-esteem, angry at self.

It's perfectly reasonable to assume that something that was conditioned for maybe even 10 years, can still affect me now, even though I know intellectually that masturbation and porn are not bad in and of themselves, and that it is perfectly good and natural to be sexual. One way I tried to go about it is by affirming to myself again and again that porn ISN'T bad, and that I SHOULDN'T feel bad about it. But perhaps a much easier solution (on paper anyway Wink) is to just stop watching porn. It has other advantages as well, like more energy, more motivation to get laid, and more appreciation of female beauty. The downside is that you can become quite a horndog if you don't masturbate or watch porn for a while.
