Does it mean micromanaging how much interest you are showing in the girl? Does it only apply to needy guys who should prevent themselves from leaking too much emotionally on a girl?

I think it is not something that, ideally, you need to consciously think about very much. Just be aware of where you are letting yourself be walked over, by women, and don't let it happen. It's not a matter of going out of your way to give a girl shit, it's just not doing whatever they want.

It means playing hard to get..in a flirty way.
