I mean you're right that you can still learn a bit about their culture by hanging around them, but the experience is something completely new. Highly recommended by the way.

I agree that German girls dress better than most Americans, but most of them dress conservative and not sexy at all.

Best fashionable women I´ve seen so far were in Moscow and Lebanon.

Completely disagree with the bolded part. Both exchange students and backpackers look like shit in my experience. In The Netherlands, the people from abroad are generally dressed worse and fatter/less attractive than the Dutch people. I know this is much worse in Sweden and Norway. Well, most of the immigrants in western Europe are in the poorer parts of society (sad but true). No clue about people backpacking Europe.

I've been in Asia for the last 1.5 years and the expats in places like Singapore, HK, Taipei, Shanghai, etc. are far better dressed, educated, more successful, open minded, talkative and adventurous. I guess it is the same with European expats in the US or Canada. Pretty obvious why: people with those traits are more likely to move around half the world. Not sure about what you say about travellers. It's true that a lot of backpackers have lost the plot and fit to that cliche of the eccentric traveller with unwashed hair. In general, though, the people I met in tourist towns or backpacking in areas off-the-beaten-path were on average more attractive than the average person back home.

I guess this is kind of going off-topic a bit, but why are you guys so obsessed with how well women are dressed and what their style is like? To a large extent, I couldn't care less ..

You know, I never cared about how women were dressed until I spent some time abroad and saw what a fashionable woman can look like. Now when I go back to the US and see the girls sporting all of their skank-wear, it turns me off a bit.

Oh, ok. Slightly cultured.

It's social signaling. Shows me and others that she "knows it". And they just look SO much better if they know how to dress.

Same as with guys really. You are in a secret club, if you know how to dress well. If you meet on the street, you'll just grin and nod at each other or have (most likely) a great conversation.

But mostly we care, because we have higher standards over here.

So true. Especially aspect 2. I've approached women from many foreign countries and it's really hard to see patterns.

The way a girl dresses tells me what she's generally about. If she's into bottles in the club, into Indie music and socialism, or generic and not that into anything. The way someone dresses is a good measure of what subculture they consider themselves to be in, and it could hint at compatibility with a girl.
