RE: Osama Bin Laden Dead
I agree that Tucker Max personifies positive masculine traits gone awry, but the value in him is exactly what you said. Reading his book was a big eye opener for me as far as understanding the kind of shit you can get away with or how shameless you can actually be. It may be a generational thing as well, as I was 22 when I read him and I think most of his fans were/are guys in the 20-25 range. Obviously I didn't want to be like him. But as a guy who really needed to be shown that being openly sexual is OK, openly voicing your opinion even if it's going to piss some people off is OK, he was great for that.

But I agree, I think he's jumped the shark and he'll be working a day job in five more years.

Him and Mystery, lol.

RE: Osama Bin Laden Dead
Met Tucker Max last year while I was in school for Journalism. He signed my copy of 'I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell'. Exactly the same kind of guy in person as he is when he writes. Between the ages of 16-19 I woke every morning asking myself how I could be more like Tucker Max that day..with mixed results.

His approach with women is a servicable one. Ruthless, unapologetic agression is a winning formula, but it clearly can't be applied to every situation. Where I think he goes off path is being an asshole to anyone and everyone for no reason. I did this for a while and it definitely did no wonders for my social life. It's much better to be friendly.

I think Tucker Max's problem is that he has become a professional asshole. It's not really of much consequence if you spend your early 20s getting drunk and chasing tail, but it is a really no win situation when your career requires you to keep doing that for a living. Where the hell does he go from this? It's going to be pretty pathetic to write these sorts of books at age 40. The guy is 33 now. Is this schtick going to work in five years? If not, what the hell is he going to do with his life? Hopefully he is saving the money he is making from his books.

My opinion of Tucker Max: funny stories but he hasn't reached maturity yet.

I made the same point in my review of his last book. He's painted himself into a corner: he can't keep doing the same thing, but he obviously doesn't have the maturity/talent to evolve his brand. So he's done.

I met him years ago at a book signing as well. He told some stories and answered questions. He came off as pathetic and try-hard in person.
