RE: Fashion advice thread
I'm a college student and have been struggling to find good fashion advice. A lot of the stuff in GQ or other magazine would look out of place / too high fashion for a college campus. Any suggestions on finding clothes or styles for college aged students?

1. Button down shirt
2. Nice Jeans
3. Nice shoes

That's all a college guy should ever need until he gets a real job.

Agreed. That's what I wear 24/7 and you still have a tonne of flexibility as to the different kinds of dress shirts you can wear. Oh, and substitute shoes for boots Wink

Hey can you tell me what kinds of shoes can be worn with jeans... since dress shoes (and boots) look better then other kinds. As I said before, there are many articles on the internet about this, but some say you shouldn't wear jeans with dress shoes at all, some say you can wear all types of dress shoes and jeans together, and some say that you can only wear plain toe ones or loafers with dark jeans, etc.

Also DD and others you could post pictures of jeans and shirts you wear with those awesome boots... just find on the internet some combinations you would wear, no need to take pictures.

Thanks!

Geez, you want these guys to wipe your ass as well?

Here's an easy no-brainer outfit to start with. This is assuming you live in the US/Canada:
- Buy a nice pair of black shoes at Aldo ($75-100)
- Buy a nice pair of jeans at either: Diesel or Guess ($70 - $200)
- Buy a couple button down shirts from Express ($50 - $100)

Right there will be an outfit for a $200-400 that will put you ahead of 90% of men just about anywhere you go in the US. You're not going to be a walking fashion statement. You're not even going to be that fashionable. You're just going to look put together, which honestly is most of the battle. Just make sure everything FITS.

Well I bought some black shoes, and didn't know that they look bad until Happy told me earlier in this thread. I just don't wanna make same mistake again... And if I found an a good answer on kinowear.com or other good resources, I wouldn't post here.

Problem is that what you mean by "nice black shoes" can be totally different than what I think "nice black shoes" are.

So when it comes to ALDO black shoes did you mean:

dress lace-ups - http://www.aldoshoes.com/us/men/shoes/dress-lace-ups
dress loafers - http://www.aldoshoes.com/us/men/shoes/dress-loafers or
casual - http://www.aldoshoes.com/us/men/shoes/casual ?

I'm European (that's why I make some grammar errors, sorry) but most of those brands also have shops here, so that's not a problem.

When in doubt, go with the most conservative. Nice black shoes = black leather dress shoes, no laces, pointed tips.

I don't even know if you have to spend that much money, Mark. I buy most of my clothes at WalMart. The only thing I really splurged on was my boots and I still get told that I dress well on a regular basis. Even American Eagle dress shirts are good. You don't have to go super high end with this stuff. My girlfriend/whatever she is just graduated from a fashion design program at college and she's the guru of looking amazing and only shopping at bargain stores. No need to throw money down a well for this.

Oh, if you're European, then dress shoes with jeans may be a no-no. In the US it's fine though.
