RE: Fashion advice thread
get a subscription to GQ and try and pick out 2-3 pieces of advice per issue. Also, copying some of the styles in the adds/pictures is always a good idea.

Some examples are great, others are just... Well, sad.

For a big shift, I would say wear clothes that fits you perfectly (which is often associated for being gay AND uncomfortable, now that's stupid), learn color match-up (grey IS the perfect color because it goes with everything), and dress with good quality clothes, you can hardly go wrong.

I completely agree with subscribing to GQ.
Basic Rules I reckon -
Wear clothes that fit. For me this is important above all else
Quality. Don't get second best or something that just does the job. Yeah it'll be cheaper, but I gurantee It will also last you a shorter period
Choose colour based on your skin tone.
Choose clothes based on your body shape.
Get inspired- films are great for fashion inspiration, but a couple of websites which can be pretty good are fashionbeans.com and lookbook.nu

Especially in movies/TV series made for girls the guys are usually dressed to look sexy. Or just observe the people around you and notice when someone is well dressed, and copy it.

Lighter colours for lighter complexions and brighter for darker.

Always aim for perfect fit (shoulders/hips should fit, then get it tailored well). For smaller people shorter jackets to elongate their silhouette etc.

I think its best to develop your taste for fashion by talking to fashion focused girls and going shopping either with them or in shops where the vendors can give you good advice for your personal style and how women and people in general receive certain clothes.

Nah, just doesn't work.
Even most fashion focused girls don't know how to dress guys well (just like vice versa) and it's really hard to find someone who doesn't just want to sell you something.
I tried the above so many times with not even decent success; it's just far better to get educated about all of this yourself first.
