The Lifestyle Question
Yeah, great (and really important) article.

Love What You Do
Love Where You Live
Love Who You’re With

It always bothered me that everybody in the PUA/Personal Development world seemed to have silently agreed to ridiculously high standards. Everybody sees everybody else just as competition and is secretly feeling inadequate & miserable when comparing themselves to some made up ideal alpha with a james bond lifestyle.

This seems to be quite widespread amongst young guys though (asked friends & acquaintances), so maybe that's just an outgrowth of the current mainstream culture ("you can achieve anything" vs. limited reality)? Or in general of being relatively young (lots of teens & tweens in PUA/development communities) and inexperienced?

Oh yeah, I just remembered this:
Quote:“There is a distinct impression out there that an “abundant lifestyle” means being a mini-celebrity, limos filled with girls, gold watches, dressing like Steven Tyler on a bad hair day, having an “Entourage”-like group of friends, and VIP tables in Vegas.

This may be somebody’s definition of an abundant lifestyle, but it’s not universally applicable. This is something a lot of guys, in my experience, don’t “get”.”

This is huge, huge, huge, huge… Thanks for posting this. Agree 1000%. This is also the huge problem I have with how the concept of “Value” is taught in the PUA community. Rock star limo lifestyle with dozens of super models walking around.

No, an abundant lifestyle is this: a job you love, a nice place you love, friends you love, hobbies you love, and a rich and fun social life. Whether that revolves around ComicCon, Burning Man, Las Vegas casinos, playing live jazz, salsa dancing, sailing, or playing golf — who cares. It’s what you decide you love.

Ahahaa. Did you think, "Wow this guy has his marbles straight..."? I get the same thing when I read things I did in my youth. I can't help but facepalm at the things I wrote haha.
