After reading Marks post on phone numbers I've been following up the next day with something like "It was nice meeting you yesterday...". So far that has been working well. The problem is I'm a busy college student usually meeting women only on the weekends, and I usually don't have time to meet up during the week. By the next weekend many of the girls lose interest. The phone number article stated texting is a terrible medium for communication but I want to keep in touch during the week. What are possible ways / good topics to talk about to keep a light conversation going back and forth until you can make plans to meet up.

What I have noticed, at least for me, is that if I got her number and don't have anything to text her about, chances are it isn't going to go anywhere. Generally the first conversation where you got her number you should have some sort of thing that made a connection, something you are interested in about her other than the fact that she's cute. That being said, you can know nothing about her and still try to keep her interest. Try to be silly, I recommend listening to pickuppodcast's episode on texting. It hasn't really helped me generate more interest from women, but what is has done is help me say things that will help me gauge their interest or lack thereof. The other thing I realized is you really have to be texting them shortly after you meet them. I am really busy with my job and work 60 hours a week in LA so it's easy for me not to try to get together for another week, but if you wait a week, 8 other guys might have hit on her in the last week and every day that goes by she will lose more interest.
